Practice Information

JOAD Indoor Season  (October - March)
Chesterfield Archery Training Center
4216 Beulah Road, North Chesterfield, VA

 

Indoor practices are held at our new facility with archers shooting 40cm or 60cm target faces at a distance of 18 meters (or 9 meters for new archers and very young members). Two sessions are available, early season from Oct-Dec and winter season from Jan-March. Each 8-10 week practice session includes at least two dedicated scored JOAD achievement pin shoots, practice time, drills, games, and team building activities. Archers must own their own equipment and have basic archery skills.

All prospective new JOAD members must own their own equipment and be approved by the team's coach prior to registering.

JOAD Outdoor Season  (April-September)
The Pit (behind the Career and Tech Center)
13900 Hull Street Road, Midlothian, VA

 

Outdoor practices are held on our large tournament range, when archers will shoot at 80cm or 122cm target faces at distances ranging from 15 meters to 70 meters, depending on age, bow type and ability. 

Three sessions are available: Spring (April-May), Summer (June- early August), Fall (late August - early October). Each 8-9 week practice session includes at least two dedicated scored JOAD achievement pin shoots, practice time, drills, games, and team building activities.

Archers must own their own equipment and have basic archery skills.

Adult Archery Practices
Indoor: Oct-March at the Chesterfield Archery Training Center, 4216 Beulah Road
Outdoor: April-Oct at The Pit, 13900 Hull Street Road

 

Our adult practice group meets weekly for camaraderie and shooting time during the same indoor and outdoor seasons as the JOAD club. Adults must own their own equipment and have the basic ability to use it, no formal instruction is given during practices. Archers may choose to participate in USA Archery's Adult Achievement Program and earn pins through two scored practices held during every 8-10 week session.

All adult archers must be 17 or older and own their own equipment to participate.

New to archery?
Learn archery skills with classes and clubs offered through Chesterfield County Parks and Rec!

 

Our JOAD program is specifically for archers with at least basic archery skills and who have all their own equipment. Chesterfield County Parks and Rec runs several beginner classes for all ages as well as a club for youth archers who are interested in getting into the sport of archery. All equipment is provided for beginner programs.

Star Shooters Youth Archery Club

For youth ages 8-14 with little to no archery experience. Four 8 week sessions offered per year. No previous archery experience necessary, all equipment provided. Please check the county recreation guide for session dates.

Weekly on Tuesdays

Homeschool: 11am-12 noon

After School: 4pm-5pm OR 5:30-6:30pm

High School Archery

High school age young adults (ages 14-18) who meet twice per week to shoot casually in a recreational capacity. No previous archery experience necessary. Meets requirements for Chesterfield County Schools Online Health and PE credits. All equipment is provided. Check the county recreation guide for current times and dates.

Twice Weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, 4-6pm

Intro to Archery 

A one time 2-hour beginner class for adults and children ages 8 and up. Some adult only sessions also available. Various dates and times are offered year round, check the county recreation guide for current offerings.
